Accounts Assistant

Cooper Parry Finance Recruitment (formerly known as Hutcheon Mearns) are delighted to be recruiting for an Accounts Assistant on behalf of our client, a well-established business based in Dundee.

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity offering a salary of £27,500 - £30,500 per annum. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this role is ideal for an individual looking to develop their finance career within a busy, high-volume environment. The position offers excellent exposure to a broad range of finance activities and would suit someone who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team while continually developing their skills.

The Opportunity

Supporting the day-to-day operations of the Finance team, the Accounts Assistant will play a key role in ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. Working within a fast-paced environment with high transaction volumes, you will gain exposure to a variety of accounting processes while contributing to the smooth running of the finance function.

This opportunity would suit candidates with previous finance experience, including those with an HNC, HND, AAT qualification or individuals keen to further develop their accounting knowledge and experience.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Processing purchase invoices, credit notes and supplier payments accurately and in line with company procedures
  • Supporting petty cash administration and employee expense claims
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring documentation is appropriately filed and readily available for audit purposes
  • Assisting with month-end finance processes
  • Supporting the preparation of routine finance reports and providing information to the wider business as required
  • Assisting with reconciliations, journals and transactional finance activities
  • Responding professionally to finance-related queries from colleagues, customers and suppliers
  • Providing general finance administration and supporting the smooth running of the Finance department
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies
  • Assisting with ad hoc finance duties and projects as required

The Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience within an accounts, finance or finance administration role
  • A basic understanding of accounting principles, bookkeeping and financial controls
  • Knowledge of debits, credits, reconciliations and journals would be advantageous
  • Strong numerical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and finance systems, with ERP system experience advantageous
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across the business
  • The ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • A proactive approach and willingness to suggest improvements where appropriate
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Salary of £27,500 - £30,500 per annum
  • Full-time, permanent position
  • 37-hour working week
  • Working hours of 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am - 4:30pm Friday
