FP&A Analyst

Our client is a leading global provider of approved maintenance, repair and overhaul services for industrial aero-derivative gas generators and power turbines used in power generation and oil & gas. Boasting a team of 500 highly skilled and experienced people, this company operates internationally in centres of excellence across Aberdeen, UK; Houston, Texas, US; and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as well as in the field.

Overview

The FP&A Analyst is responsible for the preparation, analysis and presentation of various forecasting and analytic activities across the business and reports directly to the Financial Controller. This is a value adding, analytical role which will see the successful candidate interact with operations and stakeholders in all facets of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establishing relationships with business units. Preparing analysis of variances to budgets/forecasts and presenting these findings on a regular basis
  • Responsibility for preparation of weekly and monthly P&L forecasts – exercising appropriate judgement and highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Submission of forecasts/budgets in line with Group reporting schedules
  • Preparation and summary reporting of backlog reporting
  • Undertaking an active role in the annual budgeting process utilising previous data to make informed decisions on future activity
  • Providing analysis of variances from previous forecasts / actuals
  • Assistance with various other analytical work
  • Coordinating with the Finance team to understand deviations from expected results and using this information to improve future forecasting

Planning and Organising

  • Ensuring timely preparation to allow adequate time for review of reports/submissions
  • Work closely with the Financial Controller to ensure forecasts are understood / realistic and in line with information being provided by the wider finance team
  • Coordinating with the business units to ensure data is received on time and data is interpreted and reported in an appropriate manner on a regular basis
  • Timely response to budgeting and forecast queries

General

  • Communicate effectively within the department and provide support and assistance to other staff/suppliers where appropriate
  • Actively highlight any improvement opportunity that may contribute to ensuring the safety of our people, improve quality standards and take care of the environment

Background and Experience

  • Qualified accountant who can demonstrate previous experience in a similar role
  • Ability to assess complex information and apply appropriate judgement.
  • Ability to prepare meaningful / concise reports and present these to various business teams
  • Strong inter-personal skills
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Analytical mind - ability to provide meaningful variance analysis
  • Strong prioritisation and time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
