An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified finance professional to join a rapidly growing, private equity-backed group headquartered in Aberdeen.
Operating across multiple specialist businesses and locations throughout the UK, the group has ambitious growth plans and a clear strategy to scale both organically and through acquisition. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, this newly created role will play a pivotal part in strengthening financial control, improving reporting standards and supporting the leadership team through the next phase of growth.
Overview of the Role
The Group Financial Controller will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of financial performance across a diverse multi-entity group. Acting as the link between divisional finance teams and senior leadership, you will provide robust challenge, maintain balance sheet integrity, strengthen controls and deliver meaningful insights to support strategic decision making.
This role offers broad exposure to commercial operations, audit, technical accounting, acquisitions and integration activities, making it an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional looking to develop their career within a dynamic growth environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own group wide balance sheet integrity, ensuring reconciliations are completed, reviewed and maintained to a high standard
- Lead and coordinate the month end reporting process across multiple entities
- Prepare monthly management information packs, including financial and operational performance analysis
- Review and challenge management accounts, forecasts and key accounting judgements from both a technical and commercial perspective
- Oversee long-term contract accounting and revenue recognition across project-based businesses
- Act as the technical accounting lead, providing guidance on FRS 102 and significant accounting matters
- Manage the external audit process, coordinating information requests and driving timely completion
- Support statutory compliance, tax matters and governance activities across the group
- Enhance financial controls, processes and reporting frameworks as the organisation scales
- Support acquisition activity, business integrations and wider strategic projects
- Build strong relationships with operational leaders, finance teams and external stakeholders across the group
Background and Experience
We are interested in speaking with candidates who can demonstrate:
- ICAS (or equivalent) professional qualification
- Experience within a Financial Controller, Assistant Financial Controller, Audit or Senior Reporting role
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including FRS 102
- Hands on experience of long term contract accounting and revenue recognition within engineering, manufacturing, construction or other project based sectors
- Experience operating within a multi-entity environment, either in industry or practice
- Exposure to external audit processes and financial controls
- Strong commercial acumen with the confidence to challenge and influence senior stakeholders
- Advanced Excel skills and a continuous improvement mindset
- Previous experience within a private equity-backed business and M&A exposure would be advantageous but is not essential
