Management Accountant, Arbroath

We’re working with a complex, fast‑moving manufacturing business in Arbroath to recruit an experienced Management Accountant into a 6-month contract role.  This is a hands-on position, supporting the Finance Manager and wider finance team during a period of systems implementation.  Working in a division of a global business, this is a fantastic opportunity working in a highly inclusive and supportive team. 

The Role

You’ll be responsible for producing accurate, timely reporting and analysis across manufacturing and product costing, with exposure to both daily operational metrics and month-end processes.

Key responsibilities include:

Operational & Management Reporting

  • Daily reporting of key measures including standard cost variances, purchase price variances and manufacturing KPIs
  • Extracting data from SAP and translating it into clear, structured reporting tools
  • Identifying adverse variances and working with stakeholders to understand and mitigate them
  • Producing insightful commentary and highlighting trends and risks
  • Journal preparation and posting as required

Balance Sheet & Month End

  • Ownership of balance sheet reconciliations in line with agreed procedures
  • Investigation and commentary on aged or unusual items
  • Reviewing GLs for posting accuracy and anomalies
  • Supporting month-end expense reviews and forecasting activity

Product Costing

  • Maintaining and understanding SAP master data and its downstream impact
  • Product costing using Bill of Materials, routings and purchase prices
  • Supporting the business in understanding the financial implications of change

The Candidate

You’ll bring a strong technical grounding with the confidence to question, analyse and explain to non-finance stakeholders.

Essential

  • Degree-qualified in Finance (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in management accounting and/or financial reporting

Strong experience across:

  • Key metrics reporting and variance analysis
  • P&L, balance sheet and trial balance review
  • GL reconciliations and journal postings
  • Strong Excel skills with practical, real-world application
  • SAP experience highly desirable

Desirable

  • Professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CA or similar)
  • Experience of budgeting, forecasting and performance commentary
  • Involvement in systems or process improvement projects
  • SAP S/4 HANA exposure
